Glossary

Short definitions for terms used across the Kognyt docs.

  • MCP: Model Context Protocol. Kognyt MCP runs as an MCP server over stdio.
  • Kognyt MCP: A local MCP server that provides Salesforce Platform Intelligence to MCP-compatible AI clients.
  • Platform Intelligence: General Salesforce knowledge such as limits, documentation, release data, rules, patterns, and decision guides.
  • Org Context: Org-specific context built from Salesforce org metadata.
  • Connected org: A Salesforce org that has been connected through the Kognyt flow and selected as active.
  • Active org: The org currently selected for org-aware tools.
  • Org metadata: Metadata used to build Org Context, including schema, automation, permissions, and related configuration.
  • Metadata retrieve: Pulling Salesforce metadata from the active org into a local workspace.
  • Metadata deploy: Validating or deploying local workspace metadata to the active org.
  • Metadata drift: The difference between local metadata, org state, and the last known sync state.
  • API key: A key passed as KOGNYT_API_KEY to unlock Pro MCP behavior.
  • Free tier: MCP access without an API key.
  • Pro tier: MCP access with a validated API key and higher daily limits.
